BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – Spreading kindness, one lasagna at a time.

One nonprofit that’s layering on the love across the country has made its way to Maine.

“This was a way I could give back right in my own community, right in my own kitchen. My kids helped out. It was such an easy way to give back,” said Angie Madore.

Madore is Lasagna Love’s regional director for Maine.

She started volunteering for the nonprofit after she saw a Facebook post during the pandemic.

“I thought, ‘Oh, I can do this,’” she said.

Lasagna Love was created in 2020 after a Boston mom wanted to give her neighbors a comforting meal.

“It’s literally neighbors helping neighbors, exactly like if something were happening with your neighbor and you brought them over a casserole. That’s lasagna love,” said Madore.

She says they’re in dire need of volunteers in the Central and Northern Maine areas.

“We have no shortage of people to feed, we really just need volunteers,” said Madore.

And the reactions from those who receive a lasagna are priceless.

“What really gets me is after you deliver and sometimes you’ll look at the house and you see a little kid peeking through the windows and that just absolutely touches my heart. It’s so cute,” she said.

Madore says in Maine, they fed almost 850 people in June alone.

“Anyone can get a lasagna. Anyone who is in need of kindness can get a lasagna. We don’t assign value to requests. While we are at times providing meals to those who have less resources, other times we are providing meals to those who just need some kindness in their lives,” said Madore.
