Kudos: Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra teams with Lasagna Love to feed Bread & Broth dinner guests

by News Release Tuesday, February 18, 2025 – 1:36pm

Two very amazing organizations made Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal a special dining experience for the dinner guests who enjoyed the evening meal at St. Theresa’s Grace Hall on February 10.  For the third year in a row, Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra (SITS) was the Adopt A Day of Nourishment sponsor for the meal in conjunction with the Lasagna Love local cooks who lovingly prepared their tasty meat lasagna and vegetarian lasagna recipes to serve with a lovely Italian salad and garlic bread.

Lasagna Love is a grassroots, international organization founded during the COVID pandemic to spread love and kindness by Lasagna Love volunteers who cook and deliver lasagna meals to individuals and families in their community.

Working in shifts beginning at 10 a.m., Lasagna Love cooks prepared their favorite lasagna recipes under the oversight of Bread & Broth (B&B) cooks Jane Moore and Lynn Thomas.  Volunteering their time and passion were Lasagna Love cooks Kevin Fabino, Debbie Fabino, and Gabe Gavilanes, and Laurie Flesher and Jeanne Prestella who are also SITS members as well as being Lasagna Love cooks.  In addition to preparing the meal, the local Lasagna Love cooks donated $350 to purchase the ingredients for their Monday Meal.

As the evening’s Adopt A Day sponsor, SITS also donated $350 to help B&B with the evening meal costs and five of their service-minded members, Shelly Martinez, Nancy Muller, Joanne Shope, Andrea Solis, and Kim Valverde arrived at 3 p.m. to lend a helping hand with the dinner’s setup and preparation of the giveaway food area.  These ladies are ‘pros’ at jumping in and being of help where needed and they did an excellent job with their big smiles and welcoming words as they served the Lasagna meal to the very grateful dinner guests.

During a break from the serving line, SITS member Nancy Muller shared, “I loved the ‘thank you’s’ and appreciation from all of the dinner guests who came through the line.  Warmed my heart.”

Soroptimist International is a service organization consisting of professional women who contribute their time and financial support to community-based projects which mainly support women and children.  Through their fundraising efforts, primarily the Mad Hatter Tea Party held in May, the local SITS organization funds grants, scholarships, and awards to young girls and women in the community.

“As a Soroptimist group, dedicated to enhancing the lives of women and youth, we felt blessed to be able to contribute this amazing community feast,” said Kim Valverde.

Lasagna Love wants everyone to know that you can contact them to request a free meat or vegetarian lasagna dish delivered to their home by submitting a request on their website at https://lasagnalove.org/request/
