Celebrating the Pets Who Help Make Kindness Possible
The pets who wait by the oven. Ride along on deliveries. Keep us company after a long day. Make us laugh. Comfort us. Love us unconditionally.
This National Dog Day, we’re celebrating the incredible companions who support our Lasagna Love volunteers and inviting our entire community to join in. Every pet entered helps provide food to a local humane society. Every Paw Print helps support Lasagna Love’s mission of feeding families. Some companions may no longer walk beside us, but their love continues to inspire kindness every day. Honor their memory with a Paw Print and help their legacy feed families and shelter animals.
Biscuit
Companion to Lasagna Chef Ivette
Biscuit seized each day and always conquered every obstacle that came his way. He overcame many health issues and came out stronger each time. He taught our family to value each moment, never give up, and enjoy each day to the fullest as we never know what tomorrow will bring. He ultimately showed us that it doesn’t matter where you’ve been, only where you’re going. He taught me resilience and joy in the simple things.

Toro
Companion to Andria
Toro was a senior rescue who had already been diagnosed with terminal cancer when there was a push to get him out of the rescue and into a home. I instantly said yes—but really, Toro made the decision before I had much time to think about it. He ran right to me, sat beside me, and put his head in my lap.And that was that. He picked me. I got to watch this beautiful senior dog realize that he was safe and home. His demeanor changed, and you could see the gratitude in him. He was always so happy. He loved to snuggle, happily took advantage of every nap the kids took, and quietly watched over them with this wonderful combination of protectiveness and tenderness. There was something extraordinary about how gentle he was. Whatever his life had looked like before us, he didn’t let it take away his ability to trust, love, or find joy. He simply settled into being ours—and somehow made it feel like we had always been his. Toro taught me that love is kind and gentle. He taught me that sometimes being chosen happens in an instant, with a head placed quietly in your lap. We knew our time together wouldn’t be long enough, but I would say yes to him again without hesitation. He found his home, and I found one of the most beautiful souls I have ever known. His softness was his strength.

Cinnamon
Companion to Lasagna Chef Nicole
Cinnamon had the most angelic demeanor! He loved people, he loved “his” kids especially, he loved other dogs and our cats. He was such a gentle soul. He loved to play and cuddle and especially go for walks where he could sniff anything and everything. He was my first and only dog, as I was never in a situation when I was younger to have one. My kids were raised with him. He was a couple of years old when we got him from a rescue. My kids were in 2nd grade and kindergarten when we adopted him and when he passed last year, it was one week after my oldest got married and the youngest was about to start her senior year of college. What I miss the most is that he always wanted to be near us. He would be in whatever room we were in – even when he was tired and would slink off to bed, he’d pause and turn around like, “is anyone else coming?” then he’d come back and cuddle with us more until someone else went to bed with him. I also loved that his furry legs and paws always reminded us of the Grinch. LOL. He taught me about how good it feels to have someone you love, that loves you, so excited to see you every single time. Especially since my kids are grown now, I try to let them know that I am that excited to see them every time they come home.

Kona
Companion to Lasagna Chef Courtney
One of my favorite memories of Kona is her love for people. I used to take her to dog parks and instead of playing with other dogs she went person to person to get pet! Kona taught me responsibility and gratitude

Drako
Companion to Katie
Draco was a steady presence for me during the hard first year of COVID as I worked in healthcare. He was calm, sweet and always ready for an adventure. I found out he was sick and he was resilient through treatment until the end. I miss him everyday. He taught me resilience, unconditional love, and joy in the lights things,

Beauty
Companion to Lucy & Leah
Beauty joined her family when her human was just 3 years old and her brother was 7. In so many ways, they grew up together—and Beauty took her role in raising those kids very seriously. She was there for the snuggles, the hard days, the walks, and all the little moments in between. When virtual school turned home into the classroom, Beauty found her place on the floor nearby, showing up every single day as only a beloved companion can. Beauty spent a lifetime teaching her family some of the very best lessons: love unconditionally, never underestimate a good walk, and always appreciate really good food. Some companions are there for a chapter of our lives. Others become part of the story of who we are. Beauty was part of the story. ❤️

Starr
Companion to Lasagna Chef Barbara
She was our door bell, guardian, dish washer 😆and faithful companion. Unconditional love was her gift to us. All her spots were our stars in the heavens!

Murphy
Companion to Haley
Murphy’s light still shines bright. His impact has rippled throughout our community, and friends still think of him regularly. Murphy helped foster countless kittens, bunnies, and even guinea pigs. He welcomed these tiny animals into his home; He shared his space, food, toys, and his human! He was so gentle and patient, and showed his foster babies how to live in a home and made them so much more adoptable by having a great experience with a dog. Murphy taught me how to love, showed me what family meant, and gave me stability. He was my 13 year support system and my constant. He had a beautiful life.

Bear
Companion to Aubey
Sweet Bear gave us 12 incredible years filled with his half-nose, snaggle toothed love. Constant companion, source of laughter and love, and with the sensibilities of a cat (he loved a glass of milk), our sweet Osito was the best thing to come out of Stockton. Despite years of worsening heart failure, Bear fought and enjoyed life and then gently told us when it was time for him to go. Forever grateful to have been his Mama Bear.

PuLiki
Companion to Lasagna Chef Donna
I discovered this precious little gem on a trip to Hawaii. I visited a shelter to drop off a donation of food and saw this gorgeous girl just as I walked in. She reached out to grab me with a paw as I walked by. I left with her that day.She literally kept me functioning during the pandemic. She was my connection to sanity. I was heartbroken and devastated when she became ill but for the 11 years she was my roommate she filled my house with joy and her feline energy was so missed when she passed.

Gia
Companion to Lasagna Chef Jaime
Gia was my soul dog, the ultimate companion. Gia was the embodiment of unconditional love and kindness. She was also an unrepentant food thief 🙂

Onyx
Companion to Amelia
Onyx was a trouble maker, but also my best friend for most of my adult life. He moved cross country with me, and kept me company when I missed my friends and family. I miss his snuggles and his trouble making! He was a trash panda, and managed to find many a forbidden treat in his years, including most memorably, one of my empty sauce bags from lasagna making. He made me laugh and I miss my special boy every day. Onyx taught me unconditional love, the value of quality time, patience and anger management!

Fenway
Companion to Lasagna Chef Jan
Fenway, our Doxie, was lovable, loyal, and loving, while at the same time he was full of spunk and spirit. We called him our shadow, our goodest boy. At the end we called him our sweet old man. Fenway lived with us on our boat in Boston, traveled down south with us each winter, enjoyed our motor home, and lived here on Cape Cod with us for much of his life. He taught us unconditional love and that you don’t have to be big to be brave. We lost him in May and we will love and miss him forever.

Drew
Companion to Lasagna Chef Tia
Drew was loved by everyone he came across. People remember his name if they didn’t remember mine; he was that special. HE taught me unconditional love, for sure.

Symbol
Companion to Lucy & Leah
Symbol (the Dog Formerly Known as Prince) was 6 when a friend told us he could no longer care for him. We considered renaming him but didn’t want to cause more change in his life.
Our “Symboy” enjoyed a life well-lived and much-loved, leaving behind memories of happy moments since he arrived to live the 2nd half of his life with us in 2016.
Symbol was an indiscriminate snuggler, he simply loved everyone. He was such a kind, gentle dog, always delighted to have visitors, and beamed his appreciation at them with a satisfied smile, charming them– and almost convincing them to believe he was a lap dog. He taught us to slow down, each moment is to be savored and enjoyed.

Bella
Companion to Lasagna Chef Laura
Bella was absolutely perfect. She was incredibly smart and loving, she gave gentle kisses by touching her nose to your cheek when I said ‘give kiss’. She was beautiful and my sweet babygirl. From the day I rescued her she never left my side. Its so hard just to pick one picture because she is just so incredibly photogenic. She loved the water, boat rides, biking with me, the beach and people. But she was also my protector, she saved me from and intruder one night when I got home very late from work, went to let her out and she knew there was someone lurking and chased him off our property. She taught me not to take granted of the time we get with people and our furbabies, their time with us is so short and we are their whole lives. She taught me how important it is to involve them in every aspect of life and to let them experience everything too, it’s their first time doing life as well! I’m so grateful for all the adventures we had and bringing her along with me as much as I could, seeing things through her eyes. I miss her every single day but I’m so grateful for everyday I got to spend with her and be her mom.

Plissken
Companion to Lasagna Chef Michela
Five months ago, we said goodbye to our soul dog, Plissken.. We lost him to an aggressive, cruel, fast-moving cancer, and before we could even catch our breath, he was gone.
Plissken had a way of making friends with everyone and everything. Even a stray cat we lovingly called Frank, who would follow us on our morning walks. Every morning, Plissken would search for his little friend, and when Frank suddenly stopped appearing, I found myself explaining to Plissken that maybe he had found a home or someone had found him. For months afterward, he still looked for him.
That was Plissken – gentle, curious, kind, and always finding joy in the smallest things. He taught us that there is always room for another friend and that kindness can be given freely. What I miss most are those ordinary mornings, when I didn’t realize I was living some of the moments I would one day treasure most. Plissken taught us to find joy in the little things – a little ladybug, the peace in a sunrise, snuggles under a blanket. He always lead with kindness, and to appreciate the simple moments that make life beautiful. He was the gentlest soul, and somehow, he made everyone around him a little softer. I would give anything for more time with him, but I will forever be grateful for the love, kindness, and joy he brought into our lives. He was truly unforgettable, and I will miss his beautiful soul for the rest of my life.
